About
This tool redraws an image with text: each pixel’s brightness (0.299R + 0.587G + 0.114B) is mapped to a character from a ramp running from dense to sparse. Upload an image or turn on your webcam to watch it update live at about 30 frames per second, with controls for detail, contrast, brightness, characters and hacker-style text colour.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Images and webcam frames are processed entirely in your browser with an HTML5 canvas and never leave your device.
What settings look best?
For portraits try 80–100 columns, contrast 1.1–1.4 and the default ramp. For logos or high-contrast images, use a ramp with only a few characters for crisper edges.
How do I paste the result elsewhere?
Press "Copy" and paste it somewhere that uses a monospace font (messages, code comments, a README). Or download a .txt file or a dark-background .png.
